Courage For The Task

A couple of days ago I read Joshua chapter one, the account of where Joshua is now taking over from Moses who had died. Joshua is instantly responsible for taking the children of Israel into the promised land. Both God and Joshua were fully aware of the huge task that Joshua is about to embark upon. But God, being the loving heavenly father that he is, instructs and encourages Joshua.

God tells Joshua that he will be with him as he was with Moses. He tells Joshua that he’ll never leave him or forsake him. He encourages Joshua to be very strong and courageous; to keep God’s laws close to him day and night. God tells Joshua not to become discouraged as could easily happen when the difficulties of the task present themselves, as surely, they will.

After this time spent with his God, Joshua is now ready to take on this great responsibility, and now he himself begins instructing and encouraging his own people.

Similarly, God will not ask any of us to do something he will not equip us to do. Whatever he asks of us, whether the undertaking hold great responsibility, or is a small assignment, God will empower us, equip us and help us find the courage we need, so that we can face any difficulties and challenges that present themselves when we put our noses to the grindstone to do what he calls us to do.

So I encourage you today to go forth with courage and joy, and do the good work you believe God wants you to do, “being confident that God, who began a good work in you, will carry it on to completion, until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

Definitely resonates. I note that He promised to be with us always which is why we can be courageous. He never promised comfort or a life without trials, only His Presence.
