I never knew what a sparrow looked like. That is, until recently.

I was sitting inside a coffee shop with my husband on a bright summer day last year, when glancing out the window I noticed some very small birds being fed by someone in a nearby vehicle. The birds were so tiny and cute, that I drew my husband’s attention to these adorable ‘baby’ birds. That’s when he chuckled and said they weren’t babies, they were sparrows!

Surprised by how small and insignificant the sparrows seemed to be, I immediately thought of the time when Jesus told his disciples that although two sparrows were sold for a penny or 5 sold for two pennies, not one of them were forgotten by God! (Matthew 10:29-31 & Luke 12:6-7)

It dawned on me how much our heavenly Father cares about us and our daily needs. He looks after one of the smallest birds, such that not one of them falls by the wayside; not one of them is forgotten by him. The well-being of each little sparrow is so very important to him. And he tells us not to be afraid because we are worth more to him than many sparrows!

In these same bible verses, Jesus goes on to say that even the very hairs on our heads are numbered. Can you imagine someone knowing so much about us that he even knows how much hair we have on our heads (although some of us have more than others 😊)? To even care enough to know something about us that is almost impossible for anyone to know and such a seemingly insignificant thing to think about!

So, I encourage you to rest in our heavenly Father’s care and love for you. He has your back when you’re against the wall of destruction, financial ruin, relational despair, the ravages of sickness, and so much more! He’ll show you how to overcome, how to thrive, how to heal and how to restore and be restored. So don’t ever lose hope however hopeless things may seem. Reach out to your Heavenly Father because he truly cares for you!
